Knowledge sharing across industries in the pursuit of intelligent route optimization

Call me back

Route planning and transport optimization can be complex businesses. That's why knowledge sharing is vital, even across different industries where similarities aren't necessarily a given. With networking and knowledge sharing comes inspiration and innovation. Even though two companies may transport goods with diverse and complex requirements, the basic underlying premise of having a need for route optimization in a logistics operation does not change. Sparring with unlikely allies could result in generating new ideas and possibilities, perhaps even something that before seemed unlikely or incomprehensible.

Earlier this year, AMCS Group helped set the stage for Nordic customers to do just that at a Customer Training Day in Copenhagen, something that happens every year. At AMCS knowledge sharing is valued and encouraged as a vessel towards development and, inevitably, customer satisfaction. It gives the AMCS team the opportunity to learn first-hand about relevant market trends for future product road maps. As such, customers using the Route Planner solution in the Intelligent Optimisation module traveled to the Danish capital for a chance to enhance their skills, expertise, and network with people in similar positions in different companies.

Content included a road map and an introduction to new functionalities within their solution. In addition, various hands-on topics were covered, including route planning with stop frequencies (and master route optimization), mapping and KPIs, import and export using stylesheets, export from the Route Planner solution, modeling of times (driving time, stop time, etc.), general planning and best practices. It was also possible to bring along a specific real-life challenge and obtain ideas on how to solve the problem. Attendees left with strategical take-away and inputs for their specific processes.

The customers in attendance spanned a wide variety of industries, including recycling, agricultural products, cash transport, postal delivery, goods and packaging transportation, newspaper deliveries, retail, and waste collection. Some customers brought multiple employees, spanning from superusers to IT managers. Despite the vastly different businesses, their common denominator was a need for route planning and optimization. You’d think that these companies wouldn’t have much in common. Yet, there are many synergies across the businesses in the way they work with route planning and are striving to optimize their businesses, both for the sake of saving costs, but also for the sake of being green and environmentally friendly.

The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive with an average rating of 4.5 out of 5 when asked how likely they are to participate again and how likely they are to recommend a similar event to a colleague. Not only is it a great opportunity for the attendees to learn, network and act as sparring partners for each other, AMCS also gains vital insight into trends, strategies, and perhaps even functionality gaps for future road maps. It’s a win-win situation, ultimately aiding and benefitting AMCS customers in achieving an additional competitive advantage with their Intelligent Optimisation solution.
